February 20, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Starting this week, our Wednesday evening times for Bible study has been moved up to 6:30 instead of 7 p.m. This was done for a couple of reasons. It enables families with school age children to get home earlier. Also the best times to run the soup kitchen are from 5:00-6:00 pm. We have been having around 50 present at each of the meals served and would like to be able to encourage our guests to stay for Bible study. It is difficult for many of our guests, as well our own members, when there is some lag time. This will require some extra help with the Soup Kitchen staff in cleaning up so they will be able to attend class. We would like to encourage you to help out in this great work. If you are not in the habit of coming to study on Wednesday evenings, please consider coming. There are a variety of classes offered for all ages. This is also a good night to take off from cooking at home and to eat together with your church family. Now is the time to start considering the selection of new elders and deacons. This is an annual process for deacons, while elders are selected every two years. We would like to ask that everyone be studying Acts 6, I Timothy 3, Titus 1, and I Peter along with other scriptures which relate to leadership. Examples given in the New Testament of leaders being selected for various works, had the congregation selecting new personnel with the apostles officially appointing them to their new responsibilities. They were asked to select men that were "full of the Spirit and wisdom". Some of the works are more of a serving ministry while others consist more of prayer and teaching. All of our leaders, however, need to be servants who love the Lord and seek to advance God's kingdom. There is not a time frame for these responsibilities given in the New Testament. Therefore, we do this periodically to enable the selection of new leaders and to be able to allow others to work more specifically in other areas. It also allows others, who feel the need to step aside, to do so in an easier fashion. Be sure to keep this in your prayers. Normally, people will only go as far as leaders take them. God is looking for a few good men. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!! "The Lord does not look at the things that man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7b A Friendly Welcome to all our visitors! Thank you for being our Special Guests Today!!
Fellowship Opportunities Please check the bulletin board
outside the auditorium, as there are MANY meetings coming up, with fantastic
speakers, throughout the northwest. Wouldn't it be great fellowship to
get a van loads together and attend some of these meetings? The experience
has been that the fellowship "on the road" is wonderful, and the meeting
is just the "icing on the cake"!!! Think about it. Inside the bulletin
today is a list of some of the ladies' meetings for your consideration!!
Web Site Upgrades Just a reminder to check the church's web site every week! Steve Taylor has been doing a great job at putting the bulletin in every week. He has now added links to other Christian news and Bible studies on line. Check it out!!!! http://www.dgchurch.org

Need
Ralph Crump will be teaching in the fall at
the Nigerian Institute of Arts and Theological Studies in Nigeria, Africa
to train preachers. Their old library was vandalized and burned down several
years ago by a tribal border dispute. The school opened again just this
year. The seven member board of directors have asked Ralph to procure thousands
of books from individual Christians, retired preachers and
other resources. PLEASE give your old commentaries, referencebooks,
old Bibles etc. You may drop your books in the big box marked Nigeria in
the foyer. The box will be there at least until the middle of March. Thank
you!
Bulletin Want Ads As we strive to be like the church of the first century, treating each other like family is a must. This is especially important for those of the body here who do not have "flesh & blood" family living nearby. We need to be "flesh & blood family" for each other. So in saying this, just a reminder
for those who know, and a mention for those who don't know...... We have
created a spot in the bulletin for helping each other out as family. If
you have an item you would like to sell, buy, or give away, we have the
"Bulletin Want Ads" for you! At the kiosk in the foyer is a sheet where
you may fill out your information and it will then be placed in the bulletin.
Thanks! Monica
Mike's Memos Honduras, Now and in July Probably as you are reading this........Sunday, 11:30 am, I will be getting ready to meet with the Lord's Body in LaCeiba, Honduras. From previous trips, I know many of the family there, and I am so anxious to see them again. I will be doing preliminary work to prepare for a mission trip there this summer for several of our older teens and some adults. I will have news to report when I return. Please pray for God's blessing on these efforts. Also, thank you so much for your generous donations of items to take to the Honduran people, my bags were filled to capacity! Email from Honduras I'm here! And it's HOT to me. Actually only
78 degrees, but very muggy. The trip went very well. We've had dinner with
The Nolasco family, and have been discussing the possibilities for this
summer with Oscar, the preacher at Barrio Mahillia, with his son, Jeffry,
who is much better with English than his dad. We have made plans for the
rest of the week, and shared lots of ideas. It is so good to see these
people again. They are so special to me. I am anxious to share them with
others from Dalton when we come back this summer. I hope everything is
going well there. I'll write more after tomorrow.
Soup Kitchen Corner Lasagna this Wednesday! All are welcome to come join us. Thank you for for all who are involved in this
ministry! There are many "behind the scenes" workers, ie: child care for
those who work in the kitchen Wednesday afternoons, anonymous "cooking
pot" purchasers, dessert makers, food donors, etc. It takes many working
together to shine in His Light. "Religion that God our Father accepts as
pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress
and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
MIQVAH Housing Reminder to fill out your form
for housing. Thanks!
