February 13, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Our attendance on Wednesday evenings and our Bible Study Groups' attendance has been improving. Most of our BSG's are now meeting on Sunday evenings although some are meeting at other times. These groups meet not only for Bible Study, but extensive prayer and fellowship takes place within a smaller setting. Christian friendships develop which carry well beyond the designated meeting times. Two of the groups meet at the church building on Sunday evenings at 5:30 pm. A growing group also meets on Wednesday mornings here at the building. Others meet in homes. Some also meet on Monday and Thursday evenings. Of course, the goal is for these participants to grow spiritually and for the groups to grow in numbers such that we are forced to start more and more groups. It would be wonderful for groups to be scattered throughout every neighborhood throughout the area. There is a need to start a new group in Coeur d'Alene south of the interstate. If you would be interested in being a part of this, please let me know. We would like to encourage you to be a regular participant in one of these studies. For a listing of these, you may consult the back of the bulletin or see myself if you are not sure which one best meets your needs. Our Wednesday class format allows more specific instruction for children then what the BSG's are able to provide. There are also some great adult classes going on to help you develop your spiritual walk. Remember that the staff prays for your joys and concerns every morning at 8:30 am. If you have a special prayer request, be sure to let the office know and we would be happy to include you in our prayer time. God shapes the man, but prayer in the name of Jesus enables Him to intercede to God on our behalf. Remember the words of James, Jesus' brother, "...pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." - James 5:16. Do you pray for your brothers an sisters every day? Pray for God's will to be done in your life. Pray for the growth of the kingdom. Pray for His body, the church, that we may accomplish his will on earth. A quiet time every day will enrich others as well as your own. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!
"The Lord does not look at the things that man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7b Soup Kitchen! Going Great Guns!! We have been having a great turnout for the Wednesday night fellowship in the "Soup Kitchen" both from the community and from our church family. Remember everyone is welcome to share the meal from 5:00 to 6:00 pm before Bible class time. Kim's spirit and faith are
affecting many, including those in the community. We have received donations
from several sources. Her Christian light and ours is glowing bright. Don't
miss this excitement on Wednesday nights!

Mike's Memos Teen Winter Retreat
As you may know, the youth group went on an outing last weekend and may I take a moment to say, WOW!!! It was a weekend full of making new relationships among the youth and chaperones, making old relationships stronger, and praising God for all the wonderful gifts he has bestowed upon us. The weekend was perfectly planned with free time, lessons, an evening out under the stars, and well, all who were able to attend know what I'm talking about. Those who were not there missed out on a refreshing weekend. Thank you to everyone who put time and effort into making this a wonderful retreat. by Tomi Bauer Tomi and 48 others shared two nights and parts
of three days in a winter wonderland at Camp Princes Pine. The Christ-like
attitudes worked together with the Bible lessons, worship, singing, praying,
sledding, tubing, sno-mobiling, wonderful food, chocolate & cookies
to make it a truly awesome retreat. I believe God was glorified, lives
were changed, and we were all refreshed and our spirits were revived. Thank
you God, and thank you church family.
Have You Ever Thought This?.. Whenever your kids are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to God's kids......... After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was: "Don't". "Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said. "Forbidden fruit? We got forbidden fruit? Hey, Eve...we got forbidden fruit!" "No way!" "Yes way!" "Don't eat that fruit!" said God. "Why?" "Because I am your Father and I said so!" said God, wondering why he hadn't stopped after making the elephants. A few minutes later God saw his kids having an apple break and was angry."Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" the First Parent asked. "Uh huh, " Adam replied. "Then why did you?" "I dunno" Eve answered. "She started it!" Adam said. "Did not!" "Did too!" "DID NOT!!" Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus, the pattern was set and it has never changed. But there is reassurance in this story. If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give them wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. ~If God had trouble
handling children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for
you?
C.C.S. Corner " Talents " God has blessed us richly with "many" gifts. The 6th and 7th grade class presented this theme with a scripture and devotional message last week. As teachers, we continually encourage our students to use their God-given gifts to serve others and glorify God. "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" I Cor. 10:31 When we put God ahead of our own success, then we free ourselves to excel in every area of life for the glory of God. It is exciting to see young people discovering their gifts. Teri DuPey

Ralph Crump will be teaching in the fall at
the Nigerian Institute of Arts and Theological Studies in Nigeria, Africa
to train preachers. Their old library was vandalized and burned down several
years ago by a tribal border dispute. The school opened again just this
year. The seven member board of directors have asked Ralph to procure thousands
of books from individual Christians, retired preachers and
other resources. PLEASE give your old commentaries, referencebooks,
old Bibles etc. You may drop your books in the big box marked Nigeria in
the foyer. The box will be there at least until the middle of March. Thank
you!
Honduras, Now and in July Probably as you are reading this...Sunday, 11:30am, I will be getting ready to meet with the Lord's Body in LaCeiba, Honduras. From previous trips, I know many of the family there, and I am so anxious to see them again. I will be doing preliminary work to prepare for a mission trip there this summer for several of our older teens and some adults. I will have news to report when I return. Please pray for God's blessing on these efforts. TO SERVE February 20, 2000
