January 30, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER We are very excited to announce that our "Soup Kitchen" will be starting this Wednesday evening. Kim Frisk, along with several of the ladies of the congregation will be serving a meal for anyone who desires to be filled up! We would also encourage any who comes to this to stay for the Bible Study time that follows. The Kitchen will be serving from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. The Bible Study will start at 7:00 pm. The goal of this ministry is simple - to offer someone the opportunity to get a good meal and to get to know some good people. The ultimate hopes of all ministries, of course, is to introduce and have the opportunity to share the gospel with any whom God opens their hearts. If you desire to be a part of this ministry, please see Kim Frisk. One of the questions that came up last Wednesday evening in Bible class was, "Can you make a deal with God?" Deals always seem to have strings attached. After all, God makes deals with us all the time. For example, He said, "Be faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you a crown of life." - Revelations 2:10. The deal is that if you are faithful, God will reward you with eternal life. But can we do the same with God? Obviously, God is not subject to our whim and bidding. But, don't mistake that to mean you cannot reason with God. Isn't one of the reasons we often pray is because we are asking God to do something that otherwise may not be done? When we ask God for wisdom, we do so because we believe that by asking, we receive. Moses pleaded with God to not give up on his people. He even offered to give up his own name in the book of life if God would not forgive them. Because of Moses' faith and persistence, God relented. Abraham, likewise, almost humorously, reasoned with God to not destroy Sodom and Gomorrah by "dickering" with Him. Because of Abraham's persistence, God decided not to destroy the cities if only 10 righteous people were to be found there. There were not 10 to be found, but that is an example of how powerful prayer is. In fact, prayer, although not exclusively, is a part of the "making a deal with God" process. Prayer is so powerful, yet we rarely use it to its fullest potential. God will answer our prayers and will do more than all that we ask or think, if we would but ask. Have a great week!!! "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matthew 6:6 Lunch will be served with homemade
gourmet soups. Sandwiches and desserts will also accompany the meal. Please
come and support LTC while enjoying a delicious meal.

Mike's Memos WINTER RETREAT FOR ALL TEENS
We have a big group of teens
and several parents planning for a great time!
Opportunities for Spiritual Growth & Service In the past I have had wonderful opportunities to be a part of mission teams to Guyana and Honduras. These were life-changing experiences for me, and for the young people I was able to take with me. It is awesome to be allowed to share the good news of Jesus with people who know little or nothing about him. It is also awesome to interact with those whose life-styles are so different from ours, and who have so little compared with us. It teaches humility and gratitude.... attitudes sadly lacking in so many of us. The impact these experiences have, especially on teenagers who get to participate, is invaluable. Since coming here, I have been hoping to make this type of mission opportunity a reality at Dalton Gardens. The time has arrived. Our plan is to take our Mission VBS not to Astoria, Oregon this year, but to LaCeiba, Honduras. This mission team will include qualified Juniors and Seniors along with adults who would be willing to raise their own funds (about $1000 each) and prepare to help with Vacation Bible School, Medical Missions, church leadership, perhaps some agricultural related projects, and other opportunities for service and teaching. We will be doing this in cooperation with other team members from Murfreesburo, TN., and Russellville, AR. We will be working with Oscar Nolasco and Mauriceo Reyes, and the congregations they preach for in LaCeiba. Our target dates are July 7-17. Some adults have already expressed an interest
in going on this mission trip, and the teens and I are really getting excited.
I will be going to LaCeiba February 15th-21st on a fact-finding / preliminary
planning mission. After that we will begin to work out all the details
and start our fund-raising and other preparations. If you have an interest
in being a part in this mission experience, let's talk. I'll share more
information as it becomes available.
More Bulletin Bloopers "Supper Club. Please bring your own service and food for the potluck. There is a donation of 75 certs per adult." "Join the senior saints for their all-you-can-eat food barf." "Hymn: God is Exhausted" "We will observe World Hunger
Day next Sunday, and a rice and beans luncheon will be served immediately
following the Morning Worship Service. That evening, we will make a joyful
noise unto the Lord at our monthly Sunday singing." (Printed

C.C.S. Corner Many children learn to count on their fingers, but a nurse once taught a child to pray "on his fingers." This was her method: Your thumb is the digit nearest to your heart, so pray first for those who are closest to you. Your own needs, of course, should be included, as well as those of your beloved family and friends. The second finger is the one used for pointing. Pray for those who point you toward the truth, whether at church or school. Pray for your teachers, mentors, pastors, and those who inspire you faith. The third finger is the tallest. Let it stand for the leaders in every sphere of life. Pray for those in authority-both within the body of Christ and those who hold office in various areas of government. The fourth finger is the weakest, as every pianist knows. Let it stand for those who are in trouble and pain-the sick, injured, abused, wounded, or hurt. The little finger is the smallest. Let it stand for those who often go unnoticed, including those who suffer abuse and deprivation. What a simple and wonderful
reminder as we pray! What a great tool to use in teaching children how
to pray for themselves and others.
Mission Need Books Needed For Bible School Library Ralph Crump will be teaching in the fall at the Nigerian Institute of Arts and Theological Studies in Nigeria, Africa to train preachers. Their old library was vandalized and burned down several years ago by a tribal border dispute. The school opened again just this year. The seven member board of directors have asked me to procure thousands of books from individual Christians, retired preachers and other resources. PLEASE, PLEASE give your old commentaries, referencebooks, old Bibles etc. Ralph, a missionary to Nigeria, will have them put in a container in Nashville by Feb. 15th. You may drop your books in the big box marked Nigeria in the foyer, give your books to him directly, or mail them to him at 6155 W. Hauser Lake Road, Post Falls, Idaho. 83854. All the board of directors, students (there are over 30 at present), and few teachers prayerfully ask for your kind help, book and prayer donations. Bible students at present at the institute cannot write research papers because of no books. (Students are very poor and are attending by 100% scholar ship). Ralph Crump is sponsored by the eldership of Dalton Gardens. They are donating equipment for the school and paying medical insurance for the Crumps for four years while in Nigeria.
