January 16, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER We would like to remind everyone of our change in schedule that has been in effect now for 2 weeks. Our Sunday morning assemblies start with Bible classes at 9 am. This is followed by our assembly worship time at 10:15 am. Our evening schedule has our Bible Study Groups meeting in a variety of locations. Some are in homes. Two of the BSG's are at the church building. LTC meets from 5:30 pm-7 pm. The His Needs, Her Needs class meets at 5 pm. In addition to these studies, there are some BSG's that meet on Monday and Thursday evenings and one is on Wednesday morning. You are welcome to be a part of any of these groups. All are invited to be a part of the His Needs, Her Needs but requires advance notice with Larry or Peggy Flanagan. This is a 6 week course and requires 9-12 couples and will be offered several times each year. There is also a cost for the class. If you are interested, inquire with Larry or Peggy as to the next time it will be offered. All of these meeting times are designed to help you grow in your walk with God and to grow in our fellowship with each other. The winter weather has not been particularly agreeable as for making it easy for some, but as best as you can, make an effort to be here to encourage others and to learn more of God's will. We appreciate Kim Frisk and the Fellowship Ministry for providing us with a great meal last Wednesday evening. Kim will be starting a "Soup Kitchen each Wednesday at 5:00 pm for any in the community. This is also a great way for all to come and eat together, meet new people and invite them to Bible study. The annual budget for 2000 was presented last Wednesday evening. The new budget is set at $4,233 per week. Because our giving has gone down in the last year, some of the plans that the ministries had will have to be funded either by individual contributions or will be available only if contributions go up. Money is important, but no one wants the Lord's work to be determined by money. If it is a good work and the Lord desires us to do something, we need to seek to accomplish it. Evaluate what you can give each week and seek to be generous. If you did not get a copy of the new budget, you may get one at the kiosk in the foyer. If you have any questions contact Tim Frahm or LaMont Petersen in the Finance Ministry. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!! "Therefore
everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like
a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams
rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall
because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Thank You From Our Hearts! We have so many people who serve the church
here is so many ways. Thanks to Bob Brown for building our mailboxes. Thank
you to the anonymous donor for your generosity in monetary giving for the
work of Lord through this congregation. (Please let us know if we can assist
you in anyway). Thank you to C & R Plumbing for regularly clearing
our parking lot of snow this winter. This is much appreciated by
Coeur d'Alene Christian School teachers & parents as well! Thank you
Ken & Bobbie Neubauer and the fellowship crew for all the extra holiday
events you have organized. Thanks to Jim & Jan Almond for taking on
the "duplicating tapes" ministry!
News Update..... Did you hear
that the cost of a stamp will most likely increase to 34 cents?! Have
we got a solution for you and your stamp "budget"! Bob Brown has
given us a glimpse of his wood working talents by building mailboxes for
each and every family here at the building! So now when you want to send
that note of encouragement to the new Christian, the one who is struggling
spiritually, become a "secret pal", or just to plain give the secretary
a "boost", you can now do that at the cost of no stamp. The rewards
will be out of this world, for both the sender and the receiver!
Mike's Memos As you are reading this, some of us in the Youth Group will be at Northside in Spokane nearing the end of Winterfest 2000. Our teens always look forward to getting together at this youth rally with their friends from other congregations. Dana Ivey always plans a full slate of interactive Bible classes as well as many other activities for the weekend. The teens paid their own $20 registration fee, but I am thankful to this church for the additional support necessary to help make these spiritual experiences possible for our kids. Our next youth trip will be to Camp Princes Pine for our Winter Retreat, February 4-6. Each year this is a physically difficult weekend because of the winter conditions, but the extra effort only seems to increase the spiritual significance and the enjoyment. Parents / Teens - things to bring include: Bibles, warm clothes(boots, gloves, hats) and bed-rolls, sleds, basic toiletries (yes, if there's electricity there will be water!), $12 paid in advance please to buy food and supplies. Transportation and other costs will be borne by the youth budget. We will leave about 4:00 pm on Friday and return about 3:00 pm on Sunday. We will make "pit stops" at McDonalds in Newport on the way up and back. We appreciate the parents who have volunteered to help with this retreat. It would be great if all 50 of our 7th - 12th grade teens plus some of their friends would be a part of this weekend. It'll be a blast! (Note
- going to special events like these should not affect other commitments
and priorities ie. worship times, LTC, school work. If you can't go and
keep your commitments, you shouldn't go! Plan ahead and give it the extra
effort it takes. You'll be glad you did.)
Soup Kitchen Update..... On Wednesday, February 2nd, we will begin sharing with the poor and homeless in our community by providing a meal from 5-6 pm. There are many opportunities to help in this ministry, contact Kim Frisk. Here is a list of needed items which Kim has put together. We want to reprint the list from last week's bulletin, as well as the items needed for the first meal; Saran wrap, foil, zip lock freezer bags, soup bowls, silverware, large pots & pans, bread and cake pans, muffin tins, baking dishes, 1 large food processor, 1 or 2 mixers, & a blender. First Meal: 20 - 29 ounce cans crushed stewed tomatoes ~ 20 - 6 ounce cans tomato paste (or 1 gallon can) ~ 1 10# bag sugar ~ 5 pounds hamburger ~ butter or margarine ~ Italian & Ranch dressing ~ 4 boxes cake mix ~ Coffee (ground) ~ 4 gallons milk Bring to the kitchen before January 23rd so we can finish filling out our shopping list. On an ongoing basis, the Soup Kitchen will need plastic containers with lids ie: butter, cool whip, sour cream, etc. (There is a drop off box available in the foyer for placing the plastic containers.) The Soup Kitchen
idea has been expanded to include all of us who would like to bring our
families to share the meal, and encourage our visitors to stay for Bible
classes with us. A donation box will be made available for our church family.
This is gonna be great!
