SHORT  By

STUFF DAVE SHANER

A special REACH OUT ministry started last week. This is a special effort to try to reach guests who visit with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to help those already in Christ to make this congregation their church home. We have several who will be involved in different aspects of this. In order to be seen as a friendly congregation and get the opportunity to visit with people on a spiritual level, we are asking for several volunteers. We have some people already baking bread, making an initial 5 minute visit, telephoning to invite them back, hosting guests in their home for a meal, and teaching Bible studies. Many of you have already signed up for different aspects of this, but if you have not done so and wish to be involved in REACH OUT, or desire to know more information about this ministry, be sure to see me. It is also important to encourage everyone to observe the FIVE MINUTE RULE.

Five Minutes - that is all it takes to make a positive or negative impression on guests to our worship services. It is said that guests make permanent impressions of the church during the first few minutes that they walk through the door and how they are greeted and made to feel welcome. Those first impressions often determine if guests will return. Because those first five minutes are so important, we want to do everything we can to make sure our guests are sought out, greeted and made to feel welcome.

We are asking ALL of our members to take one simple step to make sure our guest feel welcome. For the first five minutes after each worship service is dismissed, we want you to look for guests to greet. After five minutes, everyone is free to visit with whomever they wish and conduct any church business.

This is one of the most important things we can do to be seen as a friendly and warm congregation. Will you invest five minutes in eternity?

P.S. If you are a guest today and read my article, let us know how we did!HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Chili Feed & Annual

Budget Presentation

We will be having a chili & cornbread feed this Wednesday evening at 5:45 pm. This will be hosted by two of our Bible study groups. Hang your apron up and join us for food and fellowship! Following the meal, and prior to our Bible studies, we will have our annual budget presentation at 6:45 pm. Our Bible studies will start at 7:00. If you think that we are having this meal to lure you here for our budget presentation, you are ...... right! See you then!

New Brother!

Last Tuesday morning the angels in heaven rejoiced as Kenneth Huseby was baptized into his Lord. Ken is Patti Welter's grandfather. His comment after being baptized was "Now my great-granddaughter is older than me!" (Brandi Welter was baptized two weeks ago!) How exciting for the family, and for Ken! Welcome to your even bigger family, the body of Christ! Encourage Ken by a hug, call, or note of encouragement:

Ken Huseby

Also remember to pray for Ken as he cares for his wife, Orient, who has Alzheimers.

College through age 30 now have a special Sunday morning Bible class! The class is taught by Jason Litterell and meets in room 9. We want to encourage all our young adults to attend.

Prayers Are Requested

Jim Almond has been very sick with a BIG bug. Pray for him (& Jan) to get well.

Cathy Dukes, from Bonners Ferry, would like prayers for her niece, Robin. She has been sick for the past two years, with the doctors being unable to diagnose her illness. Robin is a nurse and is now no longer able to work.

LeeAnn Freshour's father, George Schwebach, had a biopsy last week and is undergoing radiation treatment for skin cancer. Please keep George in prayer for recovery.

Please pray for the family of Michelle Meksch. Michelle passed away last Wednesday, after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. Michelle was only 29 years old. Michelle was a relative of Delma Meksch and Makai & Vicki Laititi. Be sure to pray for them and for her husband, Steve.

Continue Praying For

Janetta Rose's father, Jim Taylor * Jodi Bonthius *Nah Kuhn Horn* Gavin Richardson * Bill Elliott * Dave & Becky Reeves and the Togo team members * Terri Garcia * Ron Snook * Ken Neubauer's father, Bob Barnes * Noreen Jones * Ken Arnold

Answered Prayer!

From Jan Almond:

"Praise the Lord! Bill just called and said to thank all of the congregation for their prayers on his behalf. Tests just revealed the cancer did not spread to the bones. He just has two tumors on the lymph glands and will start a new type of chemotherapy by just getting shots; no hospitalization. So he is anxiously planning the trip to the Philippines with a stop in Hawaii. Again; Bill and Donna thank you and Jim and I thank you for all of the prayers."

From Alfred & Barbara Monette:

"After further testing, it was determined that Alfred's sister, Nita Moses, did not have heart problems. Her pain was from acid reflux. Thank you God!"

From Claudia Moberg:

"My brother's back surgery was very successful. Thank you for the prayers!"

Weigh Down Workshop

Exodus - Out of Egypt

Join us for a free Orientation session and learn about The Weigh Down Workshop - a Christ centered program that teaches us to replace our devotion to the refrigerator with a deeper, more satisfying devotion to God. Through this 12 - week seminar you will learn how you can be delivered from the slavery of overeating and dieting. God can change your heart so that you truly have no desire to eat if you are not physically hungry.

The free Orientation will be held

Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 PM

here at the building.

Come discover the program that is changing people's lives as well as their weight. For more information, call Jean Grow 664-3522 or Kim Borsheim 772-8183.

Attention Ladies!!!

All ladies of the congregation are invited to come together

Sunday afternoon

January 16 at 4 PM

It will be a time of sharing, caring and praying with our sisters. Please plan to come and be a part of the encouragement, and strengthening of God's family here at Dalton Gardens. Your presence and prayers are needed. Any questions, see Jean Grow

If you need information call Nancy immediately at 772-6411. Materials need to be ordered.

Mike's Memos

MINISTRY....THAT'S WHAT WE'RE ABOUT!!

Without a doubt, Jesus Christ was the most awesome minister this world has ever known. If we would be his disciples, our lives would be about ministry. The "Reach Out" ministry should involve every one of us in one way or another. It is wonderful to also see so many personally finding other areas to serve as well. Some of you have told me that you're ready to go to work if you knew what to do. So, I thought I would start a "Ministry Opportunities" note in the bulletin like this:

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

*Organize & collate Sunday worship programs.

*A Wed. night teacher is needed right away in 4th-6th grade class.

*Be a teacher helper.

*Help with Bible Hour.

*Mentor a new Christian.

*Help with building decor-art work &/or flowers

*Help with the "Soup Kitchen"- see Kim Frisk.

Watch this list each week and find your niche for personal ministry. It is so easy to become complacent, apathetic, even selfish in our lives and decide to "let somebody else do it". This church needs every member, from the Brandy to Opal involved in the work in as many ways as we can be. Let's truly become a family of ministers....like Jesus.

Soup Kitchen

We will begin sharing with the poor and homeless in our community by providing a meal for them every Wednesday evening from 5-6 pm. This is a wonderful dream of Kim Frisk, and she has done lots of preparatory work, including a genuine cleaning and reorganizing of our kitchen. There will be many opportunities to help with this ministry. Kim is looking for volunteers. The idea has been expanded to include all of us who would like to bring our families to share the meal, and encourage our visitors to stay for Bible classes with us. The target date for the first meal is February 2nd. This is gonna be great!

Here is a list of items Kim has put together, if you can provide any of these, it would be appreciated; Saran wrap, foil, zip lock freezer bags, soup bowls, silverware, large pots & pans, bread and cake pans, muffin tins, baking dishes, 1 large food processor, 1 or 2 mixers, & a blender.

On an ongoing basis, the Soup Kitchen will need plastic containers with lids ie: butter, cool whip, sour cream, etc. (There will be a drop of box available in the foyer for placing the plastic containers.) This is gonna be great!

Attendance DirectoryWe would like to make our attendance directory "Y2K Compliant"! Please read your personal information located at the kiosk in the foyer. Make any changes or check if it is all correct. We also would like to update our email directory, as well, and include it on our web site. Please indicate if you do not want your email address on the web site.

CCS Corner

20 Years of New Horizons

While the world is celebrating the milestone of the year 2000, we at CCS are recognizing a milestone of our own - 20 years of being blessed by a Christian school. We celebrate these anniversaries because we know that over time we share experiences and we learn. Each milestone celebrates that time that has passed, but equally important is the celebration of New Horizons - the times that lie ahead when we can use what God has taught us to further glorify Him. "Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17

From Ivan & Sally

We have had a great trip out to the bush, seeing so much wildlife and many birds with beautiful colors. The experience ranged from crossing flooded rivers - I waded cross and Sally rode on the front of a big tractor, holding on for dear life - to desert elephants, to a wall of falling waters of Victoria Falls, the mating of lions in the wild, herds of elephants and driving through African villages where one can feel the poverty. Pretoria, S.Africa is the first location where we could find a place to send & receive e-mail. As the U.S. is the leader of your part of the world, South Africa is in southern Africa.

Tomorrow we take the train to Cape Town. There we will meet our friends the Dicksons and Boyds. It shall be interesting to see what they have in mind for us.

Y2K turn out to be a lot of to do about nothing here. Some people are put out that little of anything happened. Take Care! Ivan

Seniors Matinee

For Fiddler On The Roof

The play is from 2 pm to 4 pm, with special senior seating. Sign up in the foyer. See Ralph Crump for details. This will be a sell out performance, so you will need to get your name on the list now. The church van will be used for transportation.
