SHORT   By

STUFF DAVE SHANER

Welcome to the New Millennium! What an opportunity this year provides us. I have noticed as the new year approaches that many are just now starting to think seriously about the implications of Y2K. As of this writing, the new year hasn't happened yet, but people are running around as if it is time to get serious about possible trouble. In a somewhat "mischievous" way, I wish that some trouble does abound. For too long, people have always taken things for granted as if the world will always go along just as it has. When trouble strikes, men and women will start to think more seriously about their spiritual lives. The message of Jesus Christ has always been Y2K ready. Peter had to deal with this same problem long ago - II Peter 3:1-10. Men were scoffing about how come the Lord had not come yet. They did not believe that He would ever come! Peter reminds them that the Lord comes on His own time schedule, not man's. But he also explains that the only reason he had not come yet, was to give men more opportunity to repent. Possible trouble does loom for anyone who does not know Christ. The Lord could come at any time. For Christians, the sooner he comes, the better, because we all get the opportunity to be with the Lord. Until then, let's be diligent to put at our own hearts what is at the bottom of God's heart - the salvation of men and women.

We are also starting a new schedule today. Most of our Bible Study Groups will be meeting tonight instead of mid-week. Tonight from 5:30-7:00 pm, LTC will meet as normal. The Bible Study Groups will be meeting as well on Sunday evening. Check with your group leader as to your time and place. If you are not in a Bible Study Group, we would like to encourage you to get involved in one. A group will be meeting at the building every week. You are welcome to be a part of it or any other group that you desire. A listing of the various groups can be found on the back of the bulletin. There are some groups meeting on other days and we hope to start many more as the year progresses.

We are starting a traditional Bible class arrangement this Wednesday evening. The classes for all ages will begin at 7 pm and be over by 8:00. Many were desiring a time for us to be able to get together more often than just once a week. This provides that and some better instruction for our children. Let's meet together and encourage each other until the Lord comes again. Be sure to include this time in your schedule.

HAVE A GREAT MILLENNIUM!!!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ... The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. ... He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen.

Genesis 1:1; Revelation 22:17, 20-22

Happy New Millennium!

On this first Sunday of the New Year, welcome, and thank you for joining us in our worship today! We came to honor and praise the living God who makes all things new.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that it is God who enables us to "walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4). Let us glorify God with that reality in mind, and make a resolution to "daily walk in newness of life."

Support For The "Middle"

Did you ever think that a dachshund might need some support in the middle?

You do, too.

The Wednesday Family Night service is where you get that "middle-of-the-week" support. If you are not in the habit of attending Bible study on Wednesday nights, why not start this week? Come; you'll be glad you did. "Roll on in" at 7:00 pm, here at the building!

Attendance Directory

We would like to make our attendance directory "Y2K Compliant"! Please read your personal information located at the kiosk in the foyer. Make any changes or check if it is all correct. We also would like to update our email directory, as well.

Special Thank You!

A special thank you to Ken & Bobbie Neubauer and the rest of the fellowship ministry crew for creating such a great New Year's Eve party!

How's Your Love Life?

Faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. The love we have for each other is an overflowing of God's love in us. The covenant we have with God is one sealed with love. The covenant we have with our husband or wife is also sealed with love; sweet, pure and unending. The oneness we experience with our spouse is part of the divine plan God in His divine plan God in His wisdom and providence affords us as His children. Trust and respect grows from honesty and openness. Great deposits of love are stored in hearts when appreciation and affection blend together creating a lasting and loving devotion. How good our God is to give us his daughters to have and to hold. His promises are blessing upon blessing, so I'm not surprised by such a precious gift. From the first glance and courtship through marriage and life, we learn to love and meet the needs of each other. From practice to perfect, our intimacy becomes complete and we truly become one. The secret of success in all relationships is communication: given, received, and understood. The His Needs Her Needs course will start another eight week class soon. We have room for two or three more couples. No matter where you are in your relationship right now, the concepts shared and the times of interactive fellowship will enhance and strengthen your marriage. Remember the honeymoon? It doesn't have to end. The joy and excitement of our lives together as husbands and wives sometimes grows stale. We get too busy, chores pile up, stresses mount and before long our oneness suffers. One of God's greatest blessings is our life long partner, our best friend, the wife of our youth. Learning to better communicate with your spouse will help make your joy complete. Come and share in this time of growth. A better understanding of our differences helps us have a deeper love for each other, a love from our heart. Strong marriages make strong families, and all of the family benefits. May God bless you in your love for Him and each other. For more information, call Larry&Peggy Flanagan or the church office.

Mike's Memos

For teenagers, the giving at Christmas time included large numbers of video games. This is not necessarily bad, but there are some serious things to watch for in this area. Good games which are entertaining and even educational can become thieves of our time, and keep us from important time with family and from our Christian service. And then there are the bad games.......A psychology professor at West Point, Lt. Col. Grossman, advises that among the bad ones, the following are the sickening seven: "Silent Scope" , "Quake", "Corn-evil", "Kingpin", "House of the Dead", "Soldier of Fortune", and "Time Crisis". Hopefully parents and teens are communicating, and aware of the dangers. Please don't be oblivious to the mind-changing power of these forms of "fun". And parents, it really is okay to check your kid's things to see if they need help with their selections of music, games, email, etc. This is one way to say, "I love you enough to help you make good decisions."

Up-coming youth events include our Senior Guys Winter Service Retreat at Camp Princes Pine January 7 - 9. Not only will we have a blast playing in the snow, but we will cut and stack wood for other retreats and summer camps, and do other "fix-it" jobs as well. It is always a wonderful, productive time for our 9th - 12th grade teens. Also "Winterfest", the youth rally at Northside in Spokane is on January 14 - 16. We will be leaving at 6 pm on Friday, and returning on Sunday afternoon. This is a great time for spiritual growth and fellowship with area teens. It is for 7th - 12th grades and the cost is $20.

Weigh Down Workshop

Exodus - Out of Egypt

Join us for a free Orientation session and learn about The Weigh Down Workshop - a Christ centered program that teaches us to replace our devotion to the refrigerator with a deeper, more satisfying devotion to God. Through this 12 - week seminar you will learn how you can be delivered from the slavery of overeating and dieting. God can change your heart so that you truly have no desire to eat if you are not physically hungry.

The free Orientation will be held

Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 PM

here at the building.

Come discover the program that is changing people's lives as well as their weight. For more information, call Jean Grow 664-3522 or Kim Borsheim 772-8183.
