STAFFED    MIKE & MONICA

Thank you God, for sending F. LaGard Smith to share so much deep truth - God's Truth - with us. For all who attended, and we had good attendance at every session, it was a wonderful spiritual feast. We came to appreciate LaGard's wisdom and depth of insight, and his uncompromising love for the Lord and for scripture. The richness of his message comes from many years of determined study, and from rewarding life experiences which he also shares in his many books. One inspiring message comes from his wanderings in the city of Jerusalem shared in Meeting God In Holy Places.

"I had been wandering around the Old City guided by my friend Joseph hardly making sense of the ruins he would show me. Ruins and rubble. Ruins and rubble. When I discovered the model of the Second Temple, it was like walking back in time, to the days of Christ. It was a beautiful replica of the temple originally built by Ezra and renovated by Herod. With a model we can see "the real thing." No additives. No tawdry substitutes. That's the kind of Christianity I want - just Biblical Christianity at its very best!"

"The good news is that we do have a model. It's the New Testament church itself, built on the foundation of Jesus and the Spirit led apostles. What more do we need? Why all the accumulated centuries of dogma, creeds, conventions, and church traditions. It's like taking first-century Jerusalem and adding more walls. Expensive walls. Burdensome walls. Divisive walls. Walls that obscure Christ himself and make it almost impossible for me to rediscover the true heart and soul of Christian faith."

"The authenticity and simplicity of the model struck a deep chord in me. For in my own life I see areas in need of spiritual restoration. With few exceptions, what I see mostly is ruin and rubble, ruin and rubble. Although I've built with good intentions, time and the world have a way of eroding whatever we build. Sometimes I've even thought that the model I have always followed was outdated, and out of step with the times, and I have attempted to rebuild on shifting sand, and not on the Rock. The result is ruin and rubble."

"So for me, it's back to biblical Christianity, where no religious traditions can obscure my view of what God has called me to be. Let me rest in the shadow of Jesus, the great Builder and Architect of an eternal Jerusalem, where there will be no more ruin and rubble, and where I shall walk forever on streets of purest gold."

"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me" Psalm 51:10-12

Christmas Food Boxes

The teens in LTC are putting together Christmas food boxes for needy families. Any members in the congregation that have a family or two in mind, please contact Mallory Jaynes (667-7629) or Clarissa White (762-0420) with their names and addresses by December 15th. There will be grocery bags with food lists attached to them in the foyer. Please take as many as possible, fill them with listed items and return by December 19th. Thank you very much. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Mallory Jaynes

P.S. Cash donation for food purchases are accepted.

Not only are we as a congregation contributing in this special giving, but the Coeur d'Alene Christian School has been helping as well by collecting items for these Christmas baskets. Prayers Are Requested

Janetta Rose, CCS 1st grade teacher has left to be with her dad, Jim, in Missouri. He is in the hospital with heart problems and will be undergoing an angioplasty when his health allows. Janetta would appreciate our prayers for him and the family.

Pray for all of our number who have been out with the "nasty flu bug". Many have been sick this past week.

Jo Allen continues to heal after her foot surgery. Continue to pray for Jo to deal with the pain as her foot heals.

Keep Mike Reeves and son, David in prayer as they travel to Tennessee this week to meet the other Togo team members and to coordinate the crating of all their belongings to be sent to Africa.

Let's constantly keep the Togo team members in prayer as they prepare to leave on January 7th for a seven month stop over in France. They will attend language school at Albertville before going on to Africa. (Keep all the "grandmas" in prayer, as well!)

Continue Prayers

Danny Long * Patti Welter's grandparents, Kenneth & Orient Husby * Opal Bonney * Pat Riggs * Bill Elliot * Kathy Johnson

Message From Ivan

Sally and I plan to leave this coming week for a millennium safari of Africa's premier wildlife parks in Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi. Following the safari, we travel to Cape Town, South Africa to labor with missionary friends for their summer months of January and February.

The thrust of the work is two-fold: first an effort to train "National" preachers through courses and study manuals, and secondly to teach individuals God's "story" and Jesus' "salvation", by way of correspondence lessons. Both the work of their International School of Biblical Studies and World Bible School are very labor intensive in mailing and grading of courses. We will be there to be used in any way to benefit those efforts to teach God's message. Some know the people we will be working with; Roger and Martha Dickson and Don and Rita Boyd.

In the first 26 weeks of year 2000, I will be away from the congregation 15 weeks. The time has come for me to vacate my role of an elder with the Dalton Gardens congregation. When the process of choosing elders in the spring of 2000 takes place, I do not wish to have my name in consideration.

We have a fine group within the eldership. John, LaMont, and Scott are three excellent men, whom you selected two years ago. They, along with the others, will serve to lead this congregation into the new millennium. For me, I'm to the age and point in life where I'll be effectively serving the Lord's cause in other ways.

I thank each of you for your love. May God bless you in the future with a desire to be all you can be in His kingdom.

Ivan

Building Disciples was and is the ministry of Jesus and must be ours as well. Our continued efforts include REACH OUT a special class designed to teach discipleship in areas of ministry where God has given each of us talents. This class will continue for the next two weeks. Don't miss it!

Baby Shower...Today!

There is a shower for Kathy Taylor & baby "boy" Taylor at the home of Peggy Flanagan today at 2:00. For gift ideas, they are registered at Target. Contact Jennifer Rude or Shari Swaim if you have questions.

From Todd...

Last year Todd Banducci loaned a pair of dark blue ski pants "to someone". Since, he claims that his mind is going, whoever you are who borrowed his ski pants, for last year's ski trip to Schweitzer, he would like to have them back. Please contact him at 665-9110.

Mike's Memos

A NEW BEGINNING

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

Among the many new things to begin next month is the change in our mid-week Bible studies. We will all meet at the building for a short, collective worship time at 7 pm, and then there will be classes for all ages. The children's classes will be more activity oriented, and the adult classes will focus more on needs. Let's begin to talk this up, making personal commitments to participate, and encouraging our non-christian friends as well as brothers and sisters in the family. Will you accept my challenge to personally contact five people, and ask them to be here? I still remember Dave's much-needed chastisement of a couple of weeks ago. Shame on us when our shepherds see our need for spiritual food, provide the opportunity, and we fail to come when the table is spread with the Bread of Life. These periods of Bible study and Christian fellowship will nourish and strengthen our souls, making us better prepared to face the daily challenges of a society growing morally corrupt. Lets make 2000 a banner year for the Dalton Gardens church, both in spiritual and numerical growth.

LET'S GO SKIING!!!!!

Our annual ski trip to Schweitzer is only a week away. On Monday, December 20th, our bus will leave at 6:15 am, to make the trek to Sandpoint, then up the mountain for a day of fun in the snow.....skiing & snow boarding. Every year 65-80 teens and adults make this a day of wonderful fun and fellowship. We need to let the resort know tomorrow how many are coming. If you can go and haven't filled out a form yet, pick one up from the kiosk in the lobby, and turn it in to Dave or the office. They can only accept the first 36 snow boarders. Pre-teens can only go if accompanied by a parent, or by special permission. I appreciate Dave planning this event for us each winter.

Annual Ski Day Scheduled

Sign up at the kiosk- Today!

Monday, December 20th, our annual ski day is scheduled for Schweitzer Mountain. The bus will leave at 6:15 am. For youth (18 & under): Cost is 12.50, if you have your own equipment; $22.50 if you need to rent. The cost is the same for skiing or snow boarding. All fees include both lift ticket and a mandatory lesson. For adult prices, see Dave.

You must fill out a form, and it requires parental signatures in order to go.

Subject: Noah

All I really need to know about Life I learned from Noah's Ark:

* Don't miss the boat.

* Don't forget we're all in the same boat.

* Plan ahead - it wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.

* Stay fit - when you're 600 years old someone might ask you to do something really big.

* Don't listen to critics, just get on with what has to be done.

* For safety's sake travel in pairs.

* Two heads are better than one.

* Build your future on high ground.

* Speed isn't always an advantage - after all, the snails were on the same ark with the cheetahs.

* When you're stressed, float awhile.

* Remember the ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic was built by professionals.

* Remember that the woodpeckers inside are a larger threat than the storm outside.

"Delight yourself in the LORD;

And He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4
