Greetings from Siberia:

Greetings from Siberia. The weather here has turned cold the last few days. It is snowing now with about an inch on the ground. It was warm when we first arrived but has turned quite cold now. We've been dressing the Siberian part and have been staying quite warm. Henry spoke at the chapel session earlier this week. The students loved him. He read some scriptures and shared from the heart as only Henry can do. Jim Rude and I have been teaching in the preaching school for about 3 hours per day. We have enjoyed it very much. The students are like sponges just soaking in the Word of God. This is a very vital preaching school. It is the only school as such in Russia. The students plan to relocate in various cities throughout the country and start new churches.

We also took a lot of medical supplies to a hospital in Barnaul. It is considered one of the premier orthopedic hospitals in the Altai region with many skilled physicians, but they lack basic supplies which sometimes hinders them from being able to do needed surgeries. Many were there with serious bone fractures, but have not been helped very much as they had to wait their turn which could take several days. They were very grateful for the church's help. The church here has a very good name in the community.

We also had the opportunity to go to a public school today. The students were very excited because Americans rarely come to Barnaul for any reason. It is not on the route to anything. They performed some Russian folk songs and dances for us. We were able to sit in on some parts of the classes. I enjoyed the algebra class, as it coincided with the math I am teaching in the Coeur d'Alene Christian school.

It sounds like last Sunday was a great day for the church in Dalton Gardens. It is always good to recommit our devotion to the Lord and our love for each other. Only as we are unified, will we be able to march to victory. Let's continue to encourage each other day by day. We are looking forward to being back with you very much. We appreciate your prayers. Don't forget the seminar this Friday with Dr. Gailyn and Rebecca Van Rheenen. They will help us to reach out beyond ourselves and how we can be sure to present the gospel as good news. You will enjoy them very much.

Pakka (See you soon).

Have a Great Week!!

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

Welcome!

Missions Seminar This Week!

Starting Friday evening, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. and continuing Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Gailyn and Rebecca Van Rheenen will conduct a most beneficial missions seminar on " Becoming Redemptive." This husband and wife team served fourteen years as missionaries in Africa, thirteen among the Kipsigis of Kenya. They speak two African languages, Kipsigis and Swahili.

They come from Abilene Christian University where Dr. Van Rheenen serves as a tenured professor in the Department of Missions. Mrs.Van Rheenen, formerly an elementary physical education teacher, works with her husband in mentoring future missions teams and writing about missions. With their vast field experience and work with those in the mission field, they bring to us a wealth of insights about how congregations and individuals can:

Create a community of compassion for the lost.

Equip for evangelism and missions.

Strategize as a missions-mobilizing church.

Gailyn states their seminar will be "A Process of Becoming" for individuals and the church as a whole: FROM CATERPILLAR TO BUTTERFLY. Make plans to take advantage of this opportunity. For children, nursery to 4th grade level, child care will be available. You are requested to call the office, 772-0541 by Thursday morning, letting it be known you need child care and the age of the children.

Refer to the bulletin insert for details of the sessions.

Email from the Sizemores:

Dear CDA Family,

We want to make sure you know how much we appreciate the things you sent us. As we opened the suitcases Dave and Henry brought and began to take out things one at a time, we were saying "Oooh!" and "Wow, neat!" We will be putting the clothing at the place where the church meets, to be given to those who need it. It will probably be given out very soon, as there are many who need winter things. And the SIBI school will be running more smoothly now because of the paper cutter and the pencil sharpeners - things we used to take for granted in the States. As for the things you sent us personally, we can only say THANK YOU!!! The books and magazines will be devoured as readily as the wonderful chex mix and other edible things. Everything that was sent is great and we appreciate your taking care of our needs and desires.

With love from Barnaul,

Jerry, Pam, and Levi

Mike's Memos

I am so grateful to be a part of God's Family at Dalton Gardens. He has given us caring shepherds whose hearts are broken for him, who watch after our souls, and who model servant leadership. Their part in, and the congregation's response to the different services last Sunday were an inspiration to all. Now where do we go from here? If we want to continue to be filled with gladness and enthusiasm for the church here, we need to be honestly asking, "What is God's agenda for us?"

At the top of God's list is evangelism. Some of us want to immediately ask, "What's second on the list?" Instead of trying to rearrange God's priorities, I must adjust my own, and trust him to guide me. He knows what is best, and if he says "GO", then I must go. Where should we go?

STORY --- A man looked out his window one day and saw his neighbor fishing in a tub in his back yard. So he asked him, "What do you think you are doing?"

"I'm fishing!" the neighbor called back."

"But there are no fish in the tub," the first man said.

"I know, but this is sure convenient."

It is usually convenient for us Christians to go to church. It's necessary, in fact. It's convenient for us to spend time with our own groups. But that's not where the fish are.

God did not turn on a loudspeaker in heaven and announce,"You must be born again." He became a man. He took on flesh and blood in the person of Jesus and walked among us. Jesus mixed it up with sinners. He touched them; he loved them, and he drew them to himself. And that's exactly what he expects us to do.

Yes, it's great being a part of a special church family, but that comes with wonderful, opportunities and responsibilities to share the gospel with others. And if we want this church to grow, that's what we must do. Some have already begun. Are you ready to go?

The steady discipline of intimate

friendship with Jesus results in

men becoming like Him.

from Cascade College

Dr. Dennis Lynn, President Writes:

Cascade College gratefully announces that, as of November 1, the "Mandate for Ministry" special collection supporting the Bible Department, ministry and mission efforts, reached a total of $84,479. The first $50,000 raised is being matched by Bill & and Melinda Coleman of Portland, Oregon, bringing the grand total to $134,479. Individuals and families from almost 70 churches in 11 western and northwestern states participated in this successful campaign. Members of this congregation contributed $2,065.70. Dr. Dennis Lynn, President of Cascade College, noted "The financial impact of the generous response to this collection is a great blessing. Perhaps, more importantly, is the powerful message of partnership in Christian higher education in the Northwest United States. We thank God for His people who have such giving hearts and we give Him all the glory for His work at Cascade College."
