STUFF DAVE SHANER
It is no secret that the Dalton Gardens church has lost a number of members in the last two years. There are a variety of reasons for this and I am sure that this article will not come close to exhausting these. Some have gone to other churches. Some have lost their commitment to Christ and his body, the church. Some have just moved out of the area to other parts of the country. Whatever the reason, the echoes that come back often refer to the lack of excitement and purpose that has "always" characterized the Dalton Gardens church. Most people enjoy and are benefited by the teaching, the assembly services, and the good works that take place here. We have great leaders who care very much about people. There has been a shift toward more professionalism and quality in everything we do. This has been good, but it has produced a sterile, business-like environment. Many have felt a loss of fellowship, love, purpose, and excitement. These are matters of the heart more than matters of teaching.
When people leave, it has a tendency to demoralize you. You end up spending much of your time talking about the problem rather than pressing forward with the solution. The church that belongs to Christ should be one that is not merely going through the motions, but is aggressively pursuing the kingdom of God. The church in Ephesus was a great church but over time had lost its first love. The church in Laodicea was rich in good works, but were very lukewarm in commitment. One can work very hard but yield little results when the spirit of the man and of an entire church is struggling. This is where Dalton Gardens church is at right now.
It is right to be committed to Bible teaching. It is right to be concerned about all of the false teaching in the world today. But if you are in a reactionary mode, you will always be taking one step back and hunkering down to try to keep from losing any more. Defensive Christianity will never win the world for Jesus Christ. The best defense is a good offense. Let's lift up our heads. Let's lift up our hearts. Jesus is real, alive, and active. Let's encourage one another every day...and smile.
Satan wants to destroy this church...Let's roll him over with the gospel chariot. The good news of Jesus is...good news. "He that is in us is stronger than he who is in the world." - I John 4:4. Pray every day.
Have a Great Week!!!
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6,7

"Becoming a Mission Minded Church"
On Sunday night, October 31st, plan for a special preliminary session to our Missions Weekend. We will be seeing a video of long time African missionary, Monte Cox entitled "Son of a Foreigner". Having been born in Africa, Monte's insights and personal stories are inspiring. Monte is guiding David & Becky Reeves and the Togo team in their preparations for the mission field. David Reeves will be speaking and introducing the video on that evening.
The congregation here is to be commended as $2,065.70 was collected and sent on to Cascade College during our special collection two weeks ago. A recent conversation with Cascade College revealed this has been their most successful "special collection" yet! As of last Friday, $80.000 has been received, which means an additional $50,000 will be given in matching funds, for a combined total of $130,000! And some churches are yet to send in their donations! Wonderful!

Does God Exist?
One day a group of scientists got together and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one scientist to go and tell Him that they were done with Him.
The scientist walked up to God and said, "God, we've decided that we no longer need you. We're to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so why don't you just go on and get lost."
God listened very patiently and kindly to the man and after the scientist was done talking, God said, "Very well, how about this, let's say we have a man making contest."
To which the scientist replied, "OK, great!"
But God added, "Now, we're going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam."
The scientist said, "Sure, no problem" and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt.
God just looked at him and said, "No, no, no. You go get your own dirt!"
Have you ever had someone challenge your faith with the question of God's existence? The Bible Study Group which meets at Greg and Kathy Morse's home on Wednesdays will be viewing and discussing the video series by John Clayton, Does God Exist? John is a scientist who set out to prove that God did not exist and you know the rest of the story....... Please think about coming joining us, especially if you are not currently in a Bible Study Group.
The first video and discussion will be this Wednesday, October 27th at 7:00 pm. Contact Greg or Kathy if you have any questions. 772-1672

A special World Bible School message
from Margie DuPey
WBS, Oh how little we know about it! (Or at least how little I know.) It took me a while to see how close Togo and Ghana are on the map. Ghana is where most of our WBS students are. So far they can't get names of students from Togo. They say perhaps we can receive names when David & Becky Reeves get there. It would be better if we could get them now so they could follow up when they get there.
So far we have sent Lesson #1 to over 300 students. When these begin to come back for grading, we may need some help. At this point, we only have 3 teachers here. We have already graded and sent Lesson #2 to about 65 students.
How many read "Action," the WBS newspaper, or look at the missions bulletin board? There's lots of information for you to enjoy. I would love, someday, to go visit some of our WBS students. That's my dream.
