S H O R T      By
STUFF        DAVE SHANER

Last Saturday, the church had some great planning sessions. Much of this was a brainstorming session getting input from those who actively work in the various ministries of this congregation. You will be hearing more in the coming weeks about some of the new plans to advance the kingdom of God. In keeping with our mission statement, all of our plans fall into one of three categories: Winning the Lost, Maturing the Saints, and Knitting the Body Together. There are a lot of good works in which the church can be involved, but does it help us to advance God's mandate? It is easy to get distracted by focusing on other things regardless of the perceived need. We need to keep the main thing, the main thing. In two weeks, we will be having a leader's retreat with the elders, preachers and their wives to set up a specific plan of action. Be sure to keep this event in your prayers as well.

Staying focused is not only true of the church collectively, but also true of each of us individually. Do all of your activities serve God? Make it your daily prayer to ask God to protect you from Satan and allow you to pursue his agenda, not ours, so that each of us also may keep the main thing, the main thing.

Jim Rude (from Astoria, Oregon), Henry Acosta, and myself will be journeying to Barnaul, Siberia, Russia on November 1st to encourage the brethren there and teach in their school. We will be gone for 2 1/2 weeks, but ask for your prayers as we prepare to leave and for what can God can accomplish while we are there. We will be giving a report at the Missions Sunday when we get back. Gailyn and Rebecca Van Rheenen will be presenting some lessons at the weekend of November 19-21 over the subject of "Becoming a Redemptive Society." This is more than a foreign missions emphasis but will largely focus on our own mission here in Coeur d'Alene and how we can allow God to use us here or wherever He chooses to send us.

Don't forget the seminar this weekend with Dr. Ralph Crump on "Happiness Is a Choice Through Skill Development." I have been privy to some of his information and am looking forward to it very much.

Have a Great Week !!!

We are so busy sharing family times together, having Bible studies, greeting new brothers and sisters at their baptisms, bringing in dynamite speakers for seminars, and as a result, the church is in need of a cam corder to keep these memories alive. If you have one you would like to donate, please contact the office.

MISSIONS SEMINAR - Nov. 19-20
MISSIONS SUNDAY - Nov. 21

Our teachers:
Gailyn & Becky Van Rheenen

In his book, Missions Alive! Dr.Van Rheenen shares numerous reasons why we need to be rethinking our understanding of evangelism and revitalizing our commitment to the growing openness to the gospel all over the world. With the increasing secular influences in America, people are searching for basic guidelines for their lives. Many are turning to New Age philosophies, Eastern mysticism, animism, and Western materialism. We know the gospel of Christ is a better choice. They won't know unless we tell them. Many formerly "iron curtain" nations are now open to evangelization, as are the Marxist countries of Africa--Angola, Benin, Ethiopia, Mozambique and much of Latin America. African countries steeped in witchcraft are more open than ever to the influences of missionaries. As Jesus promised, "The fields are truly white for harvest."

Copies of the 87 page Missions Alive can be borrowed from the office. Reading it will challenge our missionary spirit, inspire us to reach out to our neighbors, and help get us ready for a great seminar. We have sent copies to area congregations with invitations to attend the seminar. I hope we have so much demand for the book here, that we'll wish we had ordered more copies!

We each need to say, "If I want this church to grow, what am I going to do about it? Let's read the book, pray continually for the mission of Christ to be accomplished through us, plan to be a part of the Missions Seminar, and then get ready to send and be sent, to spend and be spent in the sharing of the gospel with others.

C.C.S. Corner

Helping young people discover the Lord for themselves, and gain a quality education was my goal while I was studying to become an educator. The experience of meeting and teaching the children here has been exciting. It has been a fun learning experience teaching 1st Grade. School has been in session for only one month, and the children have taught me so much. They make me think what Jesus said, "Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." If something is wrong at home, they want to take time to pray. They don't care what people wear. they just want to be your friend. They speak the truth. Another verse that I think of when I think of my class is Romans 15:7: "Accept one another then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God."

The motto for my class is "bee all that you can be." The reason why I chose this is because scientists say that bees should not be able to fly because their body is too big for their wings, however, God says they can. If God says that a bee can fly then my first graders can do anything that they put their minds to. It has been such a blessing to be able to go to a Christian college and to teach in a Christian school. I just want to thank you for this experience and opportunity.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Janetta L. Rose

CCS Student Council Report

Nathan Frisk, president of the student council, will be leading the CCS student council into many activities over the next few weeks. Oct 27th will be "Harvest Day". This is a day when the students have the opportunity to dress up in the "harvest" style; coveralls and all. They plan to visit the nursing home on Highway 95 for singing and encouragement. At the end of the month this special group will be putting care packages together for the "Magi" program. These packages will be mailed to those in need outside the U.S. (IE: Kenya, Croatia, Haiti, etc.)
