STUFF DAVE SHANERThe Ladies Fall Fellowship succeeded in being another fantastic day of learning, fellowship, and fun. We appreciate Joy McMillon for delivering some great lessons for our ladies. Also special kudos go out to all the ladies who put so much time in setting up and arranging for this day. This has been an annual event for several years and is always scheduled for the first Saturday in October.
In two weeks, Dr. Ralph Crump will be presenting his seminar, entitled Happiness Is Your Choice through Skill Development. His major themes will be on how to deal with stress and depression as well as on how to help others facing these as well. November 19-21, will be our missions weekend with Gailyn and Rebecca Van Rheenen. The theme, will focus on Becoming a Redemptive Society. Although, we will highlight some of the foreign missions that we are facing, much of the material to be presented will be also on our immediate mission field, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Be sure that you are in town and present for this valuable seminar.
We would like to ask for your prayers on behalf of Jim Rude, from Astoria, Oregon, Henry Acosta, and myself as we will be journeying to Barnaul, Siberia, Russia. Jerry, Pam, and Levi Sizemore are missionaries there that you have been supporting and are doing a very fine work. We will be working with their preacher training school, instructing the church and possibly teaching in the University of Barnaul. It is very easy to only think about our own corner of the world. Personally, my own heart is often not what is should be towards other peoples whom I cannot readily relate to. But Jesus Christ died for all not just me and my friends. Heaven will be filled with brothers and sisters from everywhere. God uses His people to spread the gospel. The apostle Paul said we are like cracked pieces of pottery carrying a treasure - II Corinthians 4:7. But it is through all of our cracks that Jesus Christ often shines the brightest. God loves all of us and desires that we try our best to let others know about his son, Jesus. We do not control other people's hearts. But we can ride the wave that God sets us on and allow ourselves to be a tool in His hands.
Have a Great Week !!!
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

"Part II - Happiness is Your Choice From Life Skills Development"Happiness is your choice has been a breakthrough. It is a breakthrough for all people who want more power to feel good spiritually, and psychologically while living in a world which doesn't always give them what they want. To get what you want takes change.
Successful change is a difficult process. Consider for a moment the following three questions. Do you change successfully when:
1. You first think you want to change?
2. You believe you can learn or you have the skills to act?
3. You decide that changing will be worth the effort because you will feel better?
If your answer is, "Yes, I will change when these three conditions are met," you agree that first thinking, then acting to feel better, is a natural process.
The Skill Development Theory integrates this natural process of changing what you think, to influence what you can and feeling better about the results.
You can make every day happier if you learn how to control what you think. Since thoughts direct what you do and feel, it is essential to have skills to change your thoughts if they make you unhappy.
Hard to do you say? That's true if you don't have a formula, a strategy that really works. The Skill Development Theory is that strategy. You'll learn a process of rethinking, instead of reacting, when stress occurs.
You will learn how to turn negative stress into positive stress, how to win over functional depression with positive scriptural principles to aid you, among many other things that will be taught.
The seminar is designed to be positive, practical, helpful, and useful via giving and teaching efficient alternatives and choices to meet your manifold spiritual needs. Are you interested? Then welcome to the world of Spiritual Skill Development! Join us October 16th & 17th. Bring your neighbor. You will be glad you did.

Let's go fish'in!
In a recent "Church Growth" magazine, an article by Larry West included the following true story: Off the coast of California several years ago fishing boats would work the miles of shoreline, far out into the bay, catching sardines to take to the canning factory in Monterey. Tens of thousands of pelicans lived in the area. Normally good fishermen, these pelicans had grown lazy, lounging around the sardine factory enjoying a life of leisure and prosperity. Just standing in the water and feasting on the refuse from the factory, they had no need for fishing. This lazy life-style continued for several years until the bombing of Pearl Harbor brought an end to sardine fishing in the bay, closing of the canning factory, and starvation for the pelicans. Thousands of them died, for you see, the spoiled pelicans had forgotten how to fish!
How could the birds be saved? Someone suggested that maybe other pelicans could teach them how to fish. 150 Florida pelicans were brought to California. When the dying birds saw their new neighbors flying, scooping up fish in their big beaks, and eating, they began to imitate them. They learned how to fish, and lived.
The moral is obvious. Have we not raised up a generation or two who have enjoyed the life of leisure and prosperity so much they have never known or have forgotten how to fish? Jesus said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of Men." And to those disciples who followed, he gave a commission to "Go into the world and teach the gospel....." If we would be his disciples, we must go. For a true Christian, a follower of Jesus, sharing your faith is not an option. But it seems we've forgotten how to fish. Let's begin to relearn and to practice now. And when Gailyn Van Rheenen comes November 19 - 21 for our missions workshop, he will challenge and inspire us to a renewed level of missionary zeal and out-reach. There are "more fish in the sea" now than ever before. Opportunities to share Christ are all around us. Jesus died to bring life and hope. Will we die in the lap of leisure and prosperity, or will we go fish'in?
--------Don't read this and say, "Oh, that was a good article!" Go set up a Bible study!!!!

"The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1
The CCS Fourth and Fifth grade class was able to witness first hand just how bold a lion is (and other big cats too!) As part of our science chapter on mammals, we took a special trip to Cat Tales Zoological Park in Mead, Washington, last Friday, September 24th. We were happy to see jaguars, cougars, leopards, several cats, lynx, bobcats, Bengal tigers, lions, and even a liger! (lion for a father and tiger for a mother) It was great to learn how God designed each one specially for its part in nature.
